Focus on ......your Parish Lengthsman
Mike, the Parish Council Lengthsman, has been working around the Parish for almost two years now. During this time he has:
Cut back trees and overhanging branches
Cleared trees, shrubs, broken branches
Cleaned street signs
Cut back hedges and nettles
Pulled up weeds
Cleared snow
Kept an eye on things as he walked the Parish – an unofficial Neighbourhood Watch
Reported major problems to Leeds City Council
AND
Filled bag after bag of litter!
Mike picks up litter from all over the Parish, but, as you can see from this collection, the bulk of it comes from Nursery Lane – six bags every 3 to 4 weeks (in term time!)
Remember, Mike is your Lengthsman and is waiting for your suggestions for places in the Alwoodley Parish that would benefit from a tidy up. There is no charge for this. We are lucky to live in such a lovely part of Leeds, so let’s help to look after our environment.
Don’t forget! 2012 is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Parish Council is offering grants for local groups organising community events. Full details and grant application forms can be found on our website.
Seating We also want your ideas for the location of seats around the Parish, details on our website and noticeboards.
Zebra Crossing In spite of opposition from Cllr Harrand, the Parish Council and residents, unelected Council officials have got their way and an additional zebra crossing will be installed on King Lane between King Drive and the existing crossing at the end of The Avenue so that residents from the Buckstone Estate are able to cross the road to the new Tesco Express. Yes, we know there is already a path from the Buckstones leading to the existing crossing, but Highways are insisting on another crossing so now there will be two approximately 100 yards apart!
