Use them or lose them? If only it was that simple! Actually we need to tell LCC Recreation Department about them as well!
A large number of public rights of way remain unmapped and the deadline for this is 2026. If they are not mapped by then, then they will cease to be rights of way. It sounds a long way off, but since the governments initial announcement of reviewing all of the UK’s RoW, ten years have passed! There is a real danger that by the time people wake up to the possible loss of treasured paths, it will be too late to report them - they will be lost, probably forever.
Leeds City Council’s Recreation Department are pulling this work together and are looking for local representatives who will help to map the public rights of way.
If you walk, bike or ride a horse then think about this;
LCC needs volunteers with local knowledge to help identify public rights of way in the area. Friends of Adel Woods has volunteered to help in the woods. The Parish Council has agreed to help by coordinating information and sending it in to the appropriate people in LCC.
Obviously we need that information! If you know of any footpaths, bridleways or tracks that are in regular use, but are not marked on official maps (for example OS maps or local guides), then please contact us. If you would like to join a group of like minded people and be proactive about collecting and collating information, then please contact us.
Use it? Don’t want to lose it? Then tell us about it!
